The Weekly ☆ Character Showcase is an article series where we introduce one character from the Dragon Ball universe each week. This week we're being visited by the reigning World Champion himself, Mr. Satan!
Mr. Satan is the current World Martial Arts Champion and is incredibly popular all around the world.
He enters the Cell Games to protect the hopes and dreams of the people of Earth and boasts that Cell's attack on the military, which decimated their forces completely, was a mere "trick".
(From Tale 393)
Mr. Satan arrives at the Cell Games Arena in a snazzy ride and wastes no time in proudly declaring his victory once there.
He even brings an announcer from a TV station with him to the fight so that they can broadcast his challenge towards Cell on live TV.
(From Tale 394)
Mr. Satan disregards Goku and the other Z Fighters and charges out to be the first one to challenge Cell.
In an attempt to intimidate Cell, he shows off by breaking a huge stack of 14 ceramic tiles right in front of the Bio-Android terror, then points at the rubble and threatens to do the same to him.
The World Champion is so convinced of his superiority that he unleashes a flurry of attacks at Cell, who doesn't feel a thing but gets annoyed enough to promptly swat Mr. Satan away like a bug.
(From Tale 396)
The Champ finds himself dumbfounded once he witnesses Goku and Cell's incredible strength and feigns a stomachache to avoid fighting anymore.
(From Tale 403)
Despite sidelining himself, Mr. Satan manages to assist in the fight between Cell and Gohan by throwing Android 16's head close to the struggling young warrior. The fallen Android then imparts his final words of wisdom to the young half-Saiyan. As a result, the World Champion ultimately plays an instrumental role in helping Gohan transform into the Super Saiyan 2 state for the first time.
(From Tale 407)
After Gohan emerges victorious against Cell, Mr. Satan declares on live TV that it was actually him who defeated the villainous Android.
Being blissfully ignorant of what had actually happened, the people of Earth wholeheartedly believe that Mr. Satan is their savior.

"Dragon Ball" Tale 393
Dynamite Kick
Mr. Satan's ultimate technique.
He lands a clean hit right on Cell's face with this move, but it has absolutely no effect on the villain.
(From Tale 428)
Videl (Daughter)
"Mr. Satan" is actually just a ring name!
The World Champion's real name is Mark, and "Mr. Satan" is just a ring name that he came up with. He lives in a place where people are only given one name at birth, so he doesn't have a normal last name. By the way, Mark or "Maaku" if said using Japanese pronunciation, is a pun on the Japanese word for devil, "Akuma".

→Preview: Next week's character is Mr. Satan's daughter!
