The Weekly ☆ Character Showcase is an article series where we introduce one character from the Dragon Ball universe each week. This week's star is none other than Tenshinhan from the Great Demon King Piccolo Arc!
Tenshinhan is a disciplined and straightforward martial artist who trained in the Tsuru School style along with his fellow disciple, Chaoz.
(Tale 131)
His original goal was to become the greatest assassin in the world, just like the infamous Taopaipai, but his feelings began to change after meeting Kamesennin and Goku at the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai. His battle with Goku in the finals was so intense that the arena itself was destroyed! Tenshinhan unleased his ultimate Kikoho technique, putting his own life on the line to force Goku out of the arena to disqualify him, resulting in Tenshinhan winning the whole tournament.
(Tale 128)
After Kamesennin and Chaoz were killed before his very eyes during their battle against Great Demon King Piccolo, Tenshinhan resolved to defeat the demon king and, by undergoing intense training, successfully mastered the Mafu-ba technique. However, due to the electronic jar that was needed to seal Great Demon King Piccolo away being broken, in the end he was forced to face him without it. He was eventually pinned to the ground by the demon king's underling Drum and about to receive the coup de grâce, but Goku arrived and saved him in the nick of time.
(Tale 154)
At the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, Tenshinhan faced off against the newly cyborg-ified Taopaipai in the first round.
Taopaipai fired off a Super Dodonpa from a weapon that was installed in his right arm, but Tenshinhan was able to nullify it with his Kiai and knock the assassin out with an intense punch to claim victory.
After entrusting Taopaipai back into the care of Tsurusennin, his former master, Tenshinhan bid them a final farewell.
(Tale 170)
Tenshinhan then went on to face Goku in the second round.
Although he used his powerful Shishin-no-Ken (Four Bodies Technique) to split himself into four copies, Goku managed to exploit the technique's weakness of each copy having only one quarter of Tenshinhan's strength and defeated him by ring-out.
