It's that time of the year again—March 18 is Saiyan Day!
Saiyan Day is observed on March 18 of each year because the numbers 3 (for March), 1, and 8 can be read as "Sa-i-ya" in Japanese.

In the app game Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle, March 18 (JST) will also mark the beginning of the "Ultimate Battle! Saiyan Day Campaign"! This campaign features a new Dokkan Festival summon where players have a chance of recruiting Super Saiyan God Goku from the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods!

In this article, we'll be going over the incredible care and attention to detail that the Dokkan development team devoted to this new Goku unit in order to perfectly recreate how he appeared in the feature film!

A Godlike Recreation of the Movie's Transformation Scene!!

In the scene where Goku first transforms into a Super Saiyan God, he holds hands with his allies in a ring while images of a Great Ape, Planet Vegeta, Planet Earth, and the ancient Super Saiyan God flash in the background, representing how he's becoming a godly warrior that transcends the vast bounds of the universe.

In Dokkan, even with the limited time allowed for character animations, the development team simply couldn't leave that special scene out altogether!
That's why they picked out the best snippets to adequately portray the gravitas and majesty of that scene from the movie in Dokkan.

There's also a part at the end of the animation for Dokkan that wasn't in the movie in which we get a close-up shot of Goku closing his eyes after completing the transformation. According to the development team, this was added to help express Goku's complex state of mind as he comes to terms with having become a Super Saiyan God.

If you look very closely, you can also see that the color scheme and slight blurring have also been used to make the scene feel even more like the original.

Feel the Depth of the Battle Scenes!

The battle scenes in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods go everywhere! From cities to forests, mountains, and the sky, the variety of locations where characters duked it out certainly left an impression, and all the speed and depth of those scenes has been recreated in Dokkan!

Goku's "Dragon Smash" Super Attack is a series of non-stop, high-speed scenes right from the very first punch. To keep the animation smooth and faithful through all the zooming in and out for this attack, the action parts have been adjusted so that their frames line up with those from the actual movie!

The quiet before the storm in the first part makes the intense action of the second half all the more exciting!

Relive Goku's Wrath with His Active Super Attack

One of the movie's most memorable scenes has a furious Goku unleashing his Ki and blowing away a boulder, and you can experience that rage anew every time you activate his Active Super Attack, “Saiyan Who Absorbed the Power of God”, in Dokkan,

Since the sequence had to be compressed down to fit the length of a Super Attack animation, the signature close-up shot and the changes in Goku's facial expressions have been made to prioritize momentum and contrast. Of course, that wouldn't matter if we weren't able to appreciate all the action taking place, so the Dokkan team painstakingly adjusted the animations for Goku's movement and changing expressions frame-by-frame to make sure all the visual info comes across as clearly as possible!

In the part where Goku charges into the air to deliver a combo, the movie includes an extra shot of Goku's upper body, but that part has been left out intentionally in the Dokkan version to maintain the immersion in the Super Attack animation and allow the movement of the attacks to flow more directly. It's a whole different experience when you see it in Dokkan, so be sure to watch it for yourself!
