The Weekly ☆ Character Showcase is an article series where we introduce one character from the Dragon Ball universe each week.
This time we have a personal audience with the diabolical head of the Crane School Dojo, Tsurusennin!
Tsurusennin is a martial arts master who trained under Mutaito along with Kamesennin.
He is the founder of the Tsuru School, whose precept is to win by any means necessary.
(Tale 135)
To prove that the Tsuru School is the pinnacle of martial arts, he enters his students Tenshinhan and Chaoz into the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai.
(Tale 113)
While strictly coaching his students from the audience during matches, Tsurusennin is shocked to learn that Goku had defeated his younger brother Taopaipai 3 years before.
(Tale 120)
During the fight between Goku and Tenshinhan at the finals, he tells Chaoz to freeze Goku’s movements using telekinesis, and orders Tenshinhan to stop caring about the tournament and "kill that brat!!"
(Tale 131)
However, Tenshinhan wanted to win the fight fair-and-square, which leads an enraged Tsurusennin to tell his student, "You've forgotten what you owe me…for making you into the champion you are…!!"
Though he planned to enter the ring and kill Goku and Tenshinhan personally, Tsurusennin gets blown away by a well-timed Kamehameha fired by none other than Kamesennin.
(Tale 131)
Looking for revenge against the Kame School, the devious martial arts master shows his face at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, bringing the cyberized Taopaipai in tow.
(Tale 169)
Despite Tsurusennin's boastful advice to "run before you Turtle School bumblers are all cooked in your shells," Taopaipai suffers a crushing defeat at the hands of Tenshinhan, who had grown to be surprisingly strong.
With Taopaipai rendered unconscious, Tsurusennin was forced to take him and retreat from the arena.
(Tale 170)
"Dragon Ball" Tale 113
Taopaipai (Younger brother)
Tsurusennin and Kamesennin are longtime rivals!
The Tsuru School also includes teachings on being an assassin, and its views on martial arts are at direct odds with the Kame School.
Also, Tsurusennin's personality is the complete opposite of the jovial Kamesennin, with the former being generally underhanded and unpleasant. Even after all these years, the two still don't get along...
(Tale 113)
