Story

Trunks is Vegeta and Bulma's son.
He came from twenty years in the future in a time machine.
This teen is not only powerful enough to be able to transform into a Super Saiyan, but is also skilled with a sword.

Trunks easily defeats Frieza and his father, who had come to Earth to enact their revenge on Goku. Once Goku gets back from Planet Namek, Trunks tells him that in three years the Androids created by Dr. Gero, a former member of the Red Ribbon Army, will appear and will kill all the warriors on Earth and that Goku will succumb to an illness.
Before returning to the future, Trunks gives Goku medicine to cure the illness and promises to fight with him in three years.

Three years pass, and Androids 19 and 20 attack South City. Once again Trunks returns from the future, but the Androids that attacked South City are not the Androids that Trunks knows. One small change in history can cause many possible futures, so it seems that the past that Trunks arrived in was not the past he knew.

Android 20, who was in a bit of a pickle when Vegeta took out Android 19, activates Androids 17 and 18. Trunks rushes in to help Vegeta, who's been cornered by Android 18, but then the tables are turned by Android 17.

Later, Trunks is informed by Bulma that she has found an old time machine, and he learns that someone had arrived in it about four years ago.

After coming face to face with a monster that appeared in Ginger Town, Trunks finds out he's the one who used the time machine they found and his name is Cell.
In the future where Cell is from, Trunks defeated Androids 17 and 18. Seeking to absorb the two Androids and evolve, Cell killed Trunks, stole his time machine, and used it to arrive in this version of the past.

Trunks powers up to yet another level beyond Super Saiyan and tries his best against Cell, but ultimately admits defeat when it is pointed out that the power needed to support this transformation requires so much energy that it reduces his speed drastically.

After returning to the Room of Spirit and Time and training once again with Vegeta, Trunks participates in the Cell Games. There, he fights on even footing against one of the Cell Jrs. created by Cell.

Using the Senzu Beans entrusted to him by Gohan, Trunks heals Krillin and the other warriors injured in the fight against the Cell Jrs.

Cornered by Gohan, Cell self-destructs. However, he is revived from his remaining nucleus and kills Trunks with a sudden, powerful attack.

After Gohan defeats Cell, Trunks is brought back to life by the Dragon Balls, and he finally returns to the future.

There's a secret to Trunks' lustrous locks!

During his year spent training in the Room of Spirit and Time, Trunks' hair grows surprisingly fast. According to Vegeta, "Pure-blooded Saiyans have thankfully been spared the grotesquery of 'hair growth'". Apparently, Trunks inherited his sleek hair from his mother Bulma.
