While plotting to rob Goku and friends of their Hoipoi Capsules as they wander through the wilderness, Puar has an unexpected reunion with one of his former classmates from the Southern Shapeshifter School, Oolong. Following Yamcha's defeat of Goku, Oolong turns into a fly in an attempt to escape, but Puar transforms into a flyswatter and lays the smack down on the surly swine!

After Yamcha, who has a particular weakness when it comes to women, collapses upon seeing Bulma, he and Puar are forced to retreat.

Yamcha wants to use the power of the Dragon Balls to get rid of his crippling fear of women, but a confused Puar responds, "Shouldn't you ask to rule the world, or for boundless wealth or...something?"

Puar makes plans to sneak into Oolong's trailer to steal the Dragon Balls. He first transforms into Goku to lure Bulma outside, but only ends up luring out Oolong who had transformed into Bulma. Thus, the plan is a failure and Puar runs back to Yamcha's side.

During the attack on Goku and his friends using the Mighty Mouse roadster, Puar dons goggles and mans the wheel.

When Yamcha was told by the daughter of the Gyumao, Chichi, that his face was "sure weird looking" due to his missing tooth, Puar desperately tries to calm his partner down.

And when Bulma is turned into a carrot from Toninjinka's technique, Puar transforms into a bird under Yamcha's directions and steals the carrot, coming to the aid of Goku and his friends.

All the Dragon Balls that Goku and his friends had been collecting end up stolen by the Pilaf Gang. Yamcha and Puar tag along with the others to Pilaf's Castle, but were captured. Puar transforms into a bat and escapes from their cell with Oolong, and when Pilaf tries to summon Shenron to make his wish come true, Oolong interrupts and says his wish first. In the end, however, the plucky duo get captured again.

Looking at the full moon from their prison cell, Puar says, "I want to see something pretty before I die." which Oolong admonishes him for. To the pig's credit, that IS a bit heavy...

But upon looking the full moon, Goku transforms into a Great Ape and goes on a rampage, allowing him and his friends to escape the dungeon. In order to stop Goku from destroying them too, Puar transforms into a giant pair of scissors and cuts off Goku's tail, breaking the transformation and rendering the lad unconscious.

Puar seems ecstatic when Yamcha and Bulma hit it off. He then goes off to live at Bulma's complex in West City along with Bulma, Yamcha, and Oolong.

And at the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai, he is seen fiercely cheering on Yamcha and the others.

In the past, he was known as "Crybaby Puar"!

Puar was always bullied by Oolong at Southern Shapeshifter School. After they meet again in the desert, Oolong recognizes him and says "You don't mean...'Cry Baby Puar'?!" Puar, who has definitely not forgotten about the past, becomes enraged and yells "Weirdo!! Bully!! I hate you!!"
