HG Dragon Ball Pilaf Gang Complete Set Now Available for Pre-Order! Check Out a Preview of the Prototype!
HG Dragon Ball Pilaf Gang Complete Set is now available for pre-order through the Gashapon Department Store on the Premium Bandai website!!
This set includes the Pilaf Gang and their three personal Pilaf Machines. Each machine is equipped with a movable joints, a first for the HG series! What's more, you can also recreate the combined Pilaf Machine! This ultimate form stands at 300mm tall, the biggest in HG figure history.
We borrowed a painted prototype so we could get an up-close-and-personal look at it! We also asked a development team lead about the key points of this HG series first!

First, let's check out each individual Pilaf Machine! Just by them standing there, you can really feel the charm that Akira Toriyama put into the machine designs!

We asked YOSHIKI, the BANDAI Gashapon project lead on the HG Dragon Ball Pilaf Gang Complete Set, about what key points to take note of!
—What made you decide to make Pilaf Machine figures?
When I first came across Dragon Ball as a child, I was fascinated by the unique designs of the machines, and it made me want to create big, cool machines like them one day. Here, being in charge of Dragon Ball, I wanted to make figures of my favorite characters, the Pilaf Gang, and the Pilaf Machines! So, that's why this project went forward.
—Please tell us about the difficulties you faced regarding the aspects that hadn't been utilized in previous HG series, such as the movement and combining.
The HG series has been well-received for its intricate modeling and attention to coloring. And once again, continuing in that tradition, we have paid great attention to the quality of how these figures look. I'm a little worried about whether everyone will be okay with the slightly out-of-the-ordinary workings this time around. But as a fan, I'd love to get my hands on a Pilaf Gang set that also includes a combinable Pilaf Machine, so I'm bringing this out into the world with confidence. As for the first attempt at movable articulations, we enlisted the help of specialists both inside and outside the company to create a product that can stand among the posable figures out there.

This project has been in the works for over a year. We spent a lot of time trying different things to find the best way to bring the Pilaf Gang to everyone, and in a way that we could feel confident with the results.
