Welcome to the Monthly Dragon Ball Report, a monthly column series where we take a look back at pages that appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump when the Dragon Ball manga was still being serialized.
For the tenth installment in this series, we'll be looking back at the events that led up to the final showdown against Majin Buu!

Final Battle Against Majin Buu To Decide the Fate of Earth: Weekly Shonen Jump 1994 No.14 - 1995 No. 25

Despite Goku and friends' best efforts, Majin Buu is revived! Judging from Majin Buu's adorable appearance, you wouldn't think he's all that fearsome a foe...

But Gohan is suddenly overwhelmed by Majin Buu's terrifying strength!
The cover of this issue showcased Goku and his two sons transformed into Super Saiyans, foreshadowing a fight unlike anything seen before!

In the main story, Gohan begins training in Supreme Kai's Realm to defeat the dreadfully powerful Majin Buu! And on top of that, Goten and Trunks begin their intensive Fusion training! And to pump the excitement up even more, Goku transforms into Super Saiyan 3 to stop Majin Buu's rampage! Fans were amazed by the overwhelming strength and awe-inspiring brow of Goku's new form!

In was around this time that the major motion picture "Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly" hit theaters.
This meant Goten and Trunks were getting their moment in the spotlight both in the manga's story and on the big screen!

This cover of Weekly Shonen Jump 1994 No. 37 even featured Goten and Trunks alongside protagonists of other popular manga!

Goten and Trunks' Fusion finally succeeded and we were introduced to Gotenks in stunning fashion on the opening color page of that issue!

Goten and Trunks were also featured in the fighting game Dragon Ball Z: Super Butōden 3!
Fans followed the exploits of these young half-Saiyans closely across all sorts of media!

From Playdia to the Game Boy and Super Famicom, Dragon Ball was taking one game console after another by storm!
Dragon Ball's popularity just kept growing!

Goku appeared alongside other Shonen Jump favorites in plushie form on the cover of this issue of Weekly Shonen Jump that celebrated 6.53 million copies sold!

This issue also came with an extra-large, double-sided poster to get fans even more pumped about the fight against Majin Buu!

Back in the main story, the intense battle between Majin Buu, who had now absorbed Piccolo and Gotenks, and Ultimate Gohan raged in glorious color!

It was at this point that the Dragon Ball manga reached its 10th anniversary!
To mark this amazing milestone, Shonen Jump had its first-ever "transformation" extra-wide cover! When fans unfolded the cover, Majin Buu appeared!

Also, Goku was voted number one in a popularity poll to celebrate the tenth anniversary!

In the main story, Goku and Vegeta use Potara Fusion to become Vegito! Then, Vegito manages to corner Majin Buu using his immense power!

And at around the same time, Goku and Vegeta Fuse to become Gogeta in the movie "Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn"! Having two different Fusions to enjoy between the movie and the manga was super cool!

Back to the main story, the next chapter begins with a full-color illustration, and the fight against Majin Buu finally reaches its climax!

Goku finally defeats Majin Buu with a Genki-Dama that utilized Ki gathered from everyone!

Everyone slain by Majin Buu is revived and appear together once more. The choice to not use any dialogue really adds to the emotional impact of this scene! Each frame is really worth a thousand words!
