Kamaitachi (Kenji Yamauchi and Ryuichi Hamaie), both huge fans of the series, stopped by to check out this new store and enjoy being immersed in the world of Dragon Ball. Greeted by the sight of the giant Shenron on the store's ceiling, the two couldn't help but let out a "Whoooooa!" in sheer amazement! Yamauchi excitedly commented, "I remember wishing Shenron would appear as a kid but is he really this big?!" To which Hamaie, equally as excited, countered, "No way, he's gotta be much bigger than this! Still impressive, though!"
The two were similarly enthralled by the "Goku & Dragon" statue, with Hamaie remarking, "This is just too cool. It's perfect from every angle!" Yamauchi concurred, exclaiming, "Look at Goku! He's so cute!"
Moving over to the Super Saiyan statue, Hamaie reminisced, "Seeing Goku transform into a Super Saiyan for the first time was really something," followed by, "As a kid, I thought maybe I could fire off a Kamehameha too, so I tried practicing." Of course, the two also took a moment to show off their best Kamehameha poses.
Over in the diorama corner, the two had their faces pressed up against the glass case in wonder at the wide range of battle scenes depicted within. Hamaie took a stroll down memory lane, saying, "Even the rocks look just like they did in Dragon Ball!" and "I remember this scene! ...Wow, I remember all of them!" Meanwhile, Yamauchi was impressed with the androids, saying, "Man, they're cool! They can absorb other people's power and everything!"
Finishing up their initial tour of the store, Yamauchi was all too happy to give his stamp of approval, saying, "There were a lot of scenes even I could recognize, and I like that there were a lot of color options for the T-shirts. There's so much to see!" Hamaie heaped praise on the store as well, saying, "Everyone has their own ideas about Dragon Ball and how it's left an impression on their life, so I think this store is a great way to come take a look and reaffirm what Dragon Ball means to you!"
Up next was the store's opening event, where Kamaitachi took the stage and kicked things off with some Dragon Ball humor. In response to Yamauchi's "Neo Kikoho!" Hamaie fired back with an unexpected "Lassooin' Gum!" Yamauchi poked fun at this niche choice, teasing, "Come on, Kamehameha was clearly the right choice here!"
Asked for his thoughts after making a few trips around the store, Hamaie happily responded, "Dragon Ball was a big part of my life and really meant a lot to me growing up, so I'm excited to get to do something related to Dragon Ball as part of my job!" He continued, "As a fan, being surrounded by Dragon Ball up close and in person is too amazing for words. I'm just happy to be here!"
Meanwhile, Yamauchi reflected on the merchandise available, commenting, "The quality of the decor and the merch lineup is something else! I'm thinking I better buy something like a T-shirt or one of these varsity jackets. Oh, and a Bulma hat. That being said, I also wouldn't say no to free merch, you know, if that was an option..."
This of course infuriated the Dragon Ball-worshipping Hamaie, who shot back, "If you're a true fan, buy it yourself! In fact, you should be happy to buy it for even twice the price!"
Continuing to display his love for Dragon Ball, Hamaie found himself moved by the statues placed in picturesque spots throughout the store. "The details on these are really amazing. I bet people are gonna line up for photos. I mean, I'd happily pay 500,000 zeni for one! ...That's the prize money for the Tenkaichi Budokai, by the way," he said, drawing laughs.
Next, we asked for the duo's commentary on their visit. Hamaie started off by saying, "This is the first place in the world where you can just be completely surrounded by all things Dragon Ball. I think everyone should experience it. I'm sure anyone would love being here." Yamauchi added, "The statues are really amazing!"
Of course, the store-exclusive special animations were a topic of interest as well. Hamaie made sure to hype these up, commenting, "I bet any fan would love to get a look at the never-before-seen animations and illustrations in here. There's fan-favorite characters like Goku and Vegeta, and the way they made some of them look 3D is definitely a must-see."
On the other hand, thrift store aficionado Yamauchi pointed out, "You know, recently I've been collecting vintage Dragon Ball T-shirts. I bet the ones here will fetch a premium in a few years, so I'm thinking I better stock up on some now... But that being said, I also wouldn't say no to free T-shirts, you know, if that was an option..." Provoked once again by his requests for free merch, Hamaie scolded, "You can't look at these as an investment! There's no place for that kind of talk here in the Dragon Ball world, so take your money-grubbing self and get out!"
The first thing that greets visitors at the entrance is a statue of Goku and Shenron. The dynamic sculpting on the two as they break through the clouds perfectly conveys the sense that a new adventure is about to begin.
Using orange as a base for the overall theme, the inside of the store is brightly lit, while the walls and various displays and shelves feature details that help bring the world of Dragon Ball to life. In addition to merch you won't find anywhere else, the decorations, including Dragon Ball-shaped items on display, are sure to delight any fan.
With the giant Shenron on the ceiling, statues of Goku's most memorable forms such as Super Saiyan and Ultra Instinct, and more, visitors can enjoy a truly immersive experience as they browse around the store.
The store even features a row of Gashapon® machines fashioned after Hoipoi Capsules! We're sure any visitor to the store will want to try their luck in this exciting corner!
