Kami's Palace
Source: "30th ANNIVERSARY Dragon Ball Super History Collection - SUPER HISTORY BOOK"
Last time, we took a look back at all the places Piccolo has called home over the years (check it out in the Related Articles section!), but today, we're going to take a special tour of one the locations we introduced in that very article—Kami's Palace!
Tale 164
Tale 393
Kami himself spent many long years living in the fabled palace, though its current primary resident is Dende, who took over Kami's role as Earth's guardian. It's not unreasonable to say that this place is a dream destination for all Namekian fans out there in the universe! But sadly, ascending Karin Tower and gaining Karin's approval is no mean feat—not to mention requiring the Nyoibo to be bestowed upon you by Kamesennin... Looks like we'll have to make do with a good ol' fashioned investigation into the illustrations of Kami's Palace that have appeared in the manga!
Tale 164
Kami's Palace floats high in the sky, beyond even the clouds. How is it floating? Who made such a magnificent structure? The palace is shrouded in mystery. Kami could often be found standing near the edge of this architectural masterpiece, watching over the world below.
Tale 494
The palace took heavy damage during Gotenks and Majin Buu's epic battle, and fragments of the grand structure were seen falling out of the sky. It would seem then that it's not the individual components, the 'building blocks' if you will, of the palace that allow it to float so gracefully high up in the air.
Tale 480
Tale 377
The exact layout and structure of this building are not yet known, but let's see how close we can get to unravelling that mystery by compiling various images that have appeared in the manga!
Tale 375
Starting with the entrance! The design that can be seen resting atop the finely detailed grand pillars was clearly inspired by Shenron.
Tale 489
Tale 473
Passing through the entrance leads you to a winding staircase. The area in between the entrance and the staircase was also the place where Goku started training Goten and Trunks.
Tale 477
Right then, let's see what we can find up those stairs! This small area resembles the one we just looked at, except there aren't any walls! After Goku's clash with Majin Buu, it looks like his training sessions with Goten and Trunks moved up here.
Tale 478
Tale 487
It looks like they brought some nice comfy beds and futons to this area as well to give the boys a place to rest after their arduous training sessions.
Tale 376
This intriguing area, from which Bulma's voice from outside could be heard, is yet another addition to the palace's growing list of rooms, hallways, and other spaces. However, its exact location within the palace cannot be accurately determined. Chalk it up as just one more mystery...!
Tale 489
The classic scene where Piccolo slowly escorts Majin Buu through the palace hoping to buy some more time for Goten & Trunks' training to be completed gives us lots of precious illustrations to work with! Piccolo seems like he knows the maze-like layout of the palace like the back of his hand as he leads Majin Buu down one winding hallway after another.

With this super-detailed illustration, we might just be able to take a peek inside the palace. Let's enhance the image!

Well would you look at that! You can see chairs and tables through the window! It's an oddly normal-looking room when compared to the rest of the palace. There are a couple of pots inexplicably placed beside the table though, giving the room a more other-worldly feel. Of all the rooms that exist inside Kami's Palace, the only one that has been fully illustrated is the Room of Spirt and Time—which is a shame because we're dying to know how Dende and the others have decorated their own living spaces!
Tale 366
This doorway leads to the Room of Spirit and Time. Take a good look—if you're ever lucky enough to step foot in Kami's Palace, this is one place that you'll surely want to visit!
Tale 366
In the Room of Spirt and Time, time trickles by. One day in the outside world is stretched to a full year in here! Inside, you'll find an abundance of clocks—perhaps because being in the eerie, all-white environment is conducive to losing one's sense of time. However, the time shown on each clock seems to be unique, so be careful.
Jump Comics "Dragon Ball Super" Chapter 31
In Dragon Ball Super, Kami's Palace is revealed to be capable of traveling great distances at speed! So fear not, when the Earth is in danger and needs protection, you'll be able to go straight to where you're needed most! Dende used this warp-speed-like travel to take Goku directly to Android 17.
Sadly, there are many mysteries we'll unfortunately have to leave unsolved. But then again, perhaps those mysteries are the reason we're all so fascinated by Kami's Palace in the first place, which has proven to be a more than suitable place for the gracious Kami to live. For now, we hope you join us in reveling in the wonder that is Kami's Palace, floating above a sea of clouds.
