Weekly Shonen Jump 1989 No. 23
Catchphrase Grand Prix
Poster Illustration
Released on May 9th, 1989.
The Catchphrase Grand Prix was a project where readers came up with catchphrases for manga series. To match the winning "Dragon Ball" catchphrase "Sai-yuki!!" (a pun on "Greatest Courage" and "Journey to the West"), Goku and his friends were depicted dressed up as characters from "Journey to the West." Piccolo appears as Sha Wujing, Gohan as Zhu Bajie, and Krillin as Tang Sanzang—an unexpected combination!
