The Weekly ☆ Character Showcase is an article series where we introduce one character from the Dragon Ball universe each week. This week, it's finally time for Yamcha to take center stage!
Yamcha is roughneck bandit who lives in a secret hideout in the desert wasteland with his partner-in-crime, Pual. The self-styled "King Hyena" and his accomplice hunt down and stick up any poor soul unfortunate enough to wander into their territory for their cash and valuables.
(Tale 8)
One such band of unlucky travelers to encounter the dastardly desert duo was Goku and friends on their quest for the Dragon Balls. In the resulting scuffle between Yamcha and Goku, Yamcha came out on top by unleashing his fearsome Roga Fufu-Ken (Wolf Fang Fist) technique!
(Tale 8)
However, Yamcha didn't expect to encounter his one crippling weakness: a girl! One look at Bulma sent the brazen bandit running for the hills in a red-cheeked huff.
(Tale 8)
After learning of the Dragon Balls and their power, Yamcha resolved to collect them for himself and wish to be cured of his lady-phobia.
He attacks Goku's group again in an attempt to relieve them of their Dragon Balls, but has a hole blown in both his plan and his dashing smile when Goku strikes back with a flying kick that knocks out one of his teeth.
Yamcha later joins Goku as a shaky ally in order to recover the Dragon Balls stolen by the Pilaf Gang.
In the end, he never does get his wish from the Dragon Balls, but after hitting it off unexpectedly well with Bulma, he decides to move to West City to live with her.
(Tale 23)
Fast forward to match two of the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai, where we find Yamcha facing off against Jackie Chun.
He brings out his signature Roga Fufu-Ken (Wolf Fang Fist) technique to try and land a hit on his evasive opponent to no avail, and is blown out of the arena by a powerful blast of wind that Jackie manages to produce with the mere wave of his hand!
