Goku initially mistook Yajirobe for one of Great Demon King Piccolo's underlings because of the Dragon Ball he wore around his neck. However, we soon find out that it wasn't Goku's stolen Four-Star Ball but one he'd just happened across and decided to put on as an accessory! Yajirobe lost his temper after Goku ate his grilled fish, causing a battle to erupt between that two in which Yajirobe demonstrated surprising strength as he held his own against his formidable opponent!

He made himself scarce during Great Demon King Piccolo's confrontation with Goku but later returned to save the day and rescued Goku from the brink of death, bringing him to Karin Tower after being promised a feast in return. Yajirobe then scaled the tower with Goku on his back and safely delivered him to Karin.

When the masked Yajirobe secretly competed in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, he fell for Shen's fake trip attack and was knocked out cold, leading to his unceremonious exit in the preliminaries.
