Weekly ☆ Character Showcase #15: Upa!

Upa - Goku Training Arc -

The Weekly ☆ Character Showcase is an article series where we introduce one character from the Dragon Ball universe each week. This time, we're looking at a brave little warrior called Upa!

Story

Upa is a gentle yet brave little boy who lives with his father, Bora, in the sacred lands they are sworn to protect—Karin Sanctuary.
He holds his father in high regard and aspires to one day be as strong as him.

When the Red Ribbon Army came to Karin Sanctuary to steal the Four-Star Dragon Ball, Upa was taken hostage by the beastly Colonel Yellow but was luckily rescued by Goku.
Later, Bora is killed by the ruthless Red Ribbon Army assassin, Taopaipai, but his tragic death is avenged by Goku, who returns stronger than ever from his training atop Karin Tower and defeats him.

Upa then fights against Draculaman alongside Pual at Uranai Baba's Palace. Their opponent may have been a powerful vampire, but they manage to pull off an incredible victory using stinky garlic breath and by posing like crosses!

Eventually, Bora is revived with a wish to Shenron using the Dragon Balls that Goku collected, and Upa is once again able to live peacefully in Karin Sanctuary with his beloved father.

Though only a child, Upa bravely confronts his father's assassin, Taopaipai!

You'd think that Upa would be too afraid to move after seeing Taopaipai defeat both Goku and his father, Bora, but instead he throws a stone at him in defiance! Even though the assassin was able to blow the stone right back at him with a single breath, we were able to get a glimpse at Upa's great courage that he inherited from his father.
