Weekly ☆ Character Showcase #33: Nappa!

The Weekly ☆ Character Showcase is an article series where we introduce one character from the Dragon Ball universe each week. This time, we're briefing you on the prince's right-hand man, Nappa!

Story

Nappa is an elite Saiyan warrior who worked closely alongside Vegeta on their various missions throughout the galaxy.

When he invaded Earth with Vegeta to support the prince in his ambitious quest to acquire eternal life by using the Dragon Balls, Nappa greeted the people of our humble planet by blowing the entire town he landed in to smithereens!

When confronted by Piccolo, Gohan, Krillin, and the other heroes of Earth, he sicced the Saibaimen on them to test their strength rather than fight them himself. When the Saibaimen were surprisingly defeated, however, Nappa stepped in to crush the resistance personally.

He powered up and launched his assault on Tenshinhan with earth-shaking force, forcing Chaoz to take drastic measures. In a desperate attempt to protect his friend, he latched onto Nappa's back and self-destructed. His sacrifice was in vain, however, as Nappa emerged from the explosion with barely a scratch to show for it.

Piccolo leveraged his knowledge of Saiyan weaknesses gained from past battles against Goku and grabbed hold of Nappa's tail, but even this proved futile due to Nappa having trained and strengthened his tail for such an occasion! As much as Piccolo and Krillin in turn tried to resist, they were no match for the elite Saiyan warrior's overwhelming strength.

Finally, Krillin managed to land a hit when he cut Nappa's cheek with a Kienzan, and even Gohan was able to connect a solid kick to send him reeling, but their attempts seemed to only enrage the Saiyan. In his fury, he sought to obliterate Gohan with a monstrous energy blast, but in an unexpected turn of events, Piccolo dived in front of the attack and sacrificed himself to save him.

When Goku finally returned to Earth from his training on the Planet of the Kaio, Nappa thought he'd be just another pushover to be crushed like the others—but he soon found out how wrong he was! Goku calmly evaded every attack that Nappa could throw at him, and when he left himself open, Goku even asserted his dominance by standing directly on top of Nappa's head!

On the brink of losing his composure in the face of Goku's immense strength, he was brought back to his senses by Vegeta and moved to unleash his most powerful attack at point-blank range. Unfortunately for the Saiyan invader, Goku thwarted his attempt once again, this time by nullifying Nappa's attack with his own: a devastating Kamehameha!
Vegeta had seen enough and ordered Nappa to stand down, but that only meant he was done with Goku—not the others! He instead set his sights on Gohan and Krillin, thinking to mercilessly eliminate the two weaker warriors, but was swiftly taken down by Goku using his new Kaio-ken technique.

Struggling for breath, Nappa pleaded for Vegeta to save him. However, the Saiyan prince coldly replied, "What good are you if you cannot fight?" launching Nappa into the air and blasting him into oblivion.

Techniques

Shock Wave
With the mere flick of his fingers, Nappa causes a violent explosion to erupt before him, blowing away everything in sight, from buildings to people, and completely leveling the surrounding area.

Trivia

Nappa is a man of instinct and action!

Unable to wait for Goku's arrival to start the fighting, Nappa roared, "Forget waiting!!!" before attempting to rush into battle because he felt like it, and when faced with Krillin's razor-like Kienzan, he only snorted that it was just a "parlor trick" and opted to take it head-on!
However, his "punch first ask questions later" attitude often lands him in trouble with Vegeta.
